What does a PhosBan reactor 150 do?
The PhosBan Reactor 150 is designed to push water upwards from the bottom and through the media. This forces an even distribution of water throughout the media and prevents channeling from occurring. This is also great for fluidizing media such as GFO where the filter media needs to tumble gently and evenly.
What do you put in a PhosBan reactor?
Add about 1 cup of water to the reactor. Use a yardstick or tongs to push out the large air bubbles trapped in the lower sponge. 1a. Adding PhosBan media Before adding PhosBan to the reactor, temporarily cover the top of the 9 inch center tube with a piece of tape.
What do Biopellets do in reef tank?
Biopellets are little biodegradable pellets that contain bacteria to help your tank thrive. You need a solid amount of good bacteria in your tank in order to facilitate a healthy ecosystem and keep nitrate levels in check.
When should I change my Gfo?
Change GFO when phosphate levels begin to rise. This is generally every 4 weeks for standard GFO and closer to 8 weeks for High Capacity GFO.
Do I need a phosphate reactor?
Without a phosphate reactor, phosphate levels would naturally rise, as phosphates are a byproduct of fish foods. Unchecked, they can rise to levels that are deleterious to any organism that relies on calcification.
Is a phosphate reactor necessary?
Can you use PhosGuard in a reactor?
You can use PhosGuard two ways: Passively in a media bag in the sump or back chambers or in a reactor. When using any phosphate control media, using less is better than using more. Removing phosphates rapidly can shock the system and cause sensitive corals like SPS to lose flesh.
Do BioPellets remove phosphates?
The new All-in-One BioPellets have the phosphate remover built in allowing the bacteria to utilize it for growth and reproduction at the same place as their carbon source. This combination improves nitrate removal by about 5x.
How long does it take for BioPellets to work?
Once the pellets are inserted in the gluteal area, a consistent dose of Bio-Identical hormones enter the bloodstream. Most patients report some symptom relief in as little as 2-4 weeks, but full optimization may take up to 6 months.
Does Gfo lower PH?
Not uncommon for PH to drop with the use of GFO. Especially in smaller tanks or when large quantities are used. Sometimes using less the recommended amount is required.
Does Gfo remove algae?
GFO, which stands for Granular Ferric Oxide, is a red brown powder that is compacted into granules. The purpose of granular ferric oxide is to inhibit algae growth by removing phosphates from the aquarium. Maintaining low phosphate levels will help prevent algae outbreaks and control growth.
How often should you change phosphate remover?
Eventually over the space of a couples of months the hair algae should eventually stop coming back. Once it has gone change your phosphate remover and remember to change it every 3 – 6 months.
Does PhosGuard lower pH?
PhosGuard™ is not capable of impacting the mineral concentration in any way, so it will not directly impact the GH of the aquarium.
Can you use too much PhosGuard?
It is entirely possible to overdose activated phosphate absorption medias in the aquarium, and PhosGuard™ is no exception. If phosphate-absorbing medias are overused, they can lower the phosphate so suddenly that sensitive aquatic organisms like corals and invertebrates can become stressed.
How long does it take for biopellets to work?
4-8 weeks
Depending on the system it should take 4-8 weeks for the bacteria population to multiply and begin its work on your nitrates. Once you have the reactor going we suggest not making any adjustments for 8 weeks. Give the media and bacteria time to adjust to the parameters found in your tank and begin working.
