Are all Shimano 9 speed cassettes compatible?
Most 8- and 9-speed Shimano mountain bike and road kit is inter-compatible because they both use the same cable pull ratio. This means that you can use an 8 -or 9-speed mountain bike derailleur with road shifters or vice versa.
Will a 9 speed cassette fit on a 10 speed hub?
Interestingly, the reverse is not always true; you cannot use a 9 speed cassette on all 10 speed hubs. Shimano’s 10 speed specific hubs are only designed to be compatible with 10 speed cassettes and, as with most computer programs, downward compatibility does not work as well as upward.
What cassettes are compatible with Sora?
Sora only comes with a choice of nine available speeds at the back — you can only use it conjunction with cassettes featuring nine sprockets — compared with the 11 found on Dura-Ace, Ultegra or 105, or the 10 speeds found on Tiagra. However, nine speeds are still more than you’d find on Tourney or Claris.
Are Shimano 9 and 10 speed compatibility?
A 9 speed rear dérailleur is not compatible with 10 speed. The width of the chain and the cogs is the biggest issue. The pulleys on a 10 speed dérailleur are narrower, and a 10 speed chain will not rest correctly on the jockey pulleys of a 9 speed dérailleur.
Is Shimano Sora a good derailleur?
The big differences between more expensive options and the Sora are the non-changing 9-speed (the number of gears available), and the additional weight compared to more premium versions. However, Sora maintains its reputation as a reliable groupset offering good performance.
Is Shimano Sora better than 105?
The 105 dual-pivot brakes are responsive, dependable, and more aero than previous iterations. Sora’s calipers also got an upgrade and now have up to 20% more braking power than before. They’re bang-for-your-buck calipers that offer excellent braking, but don’t expect the same snappiness and stopping power as the 105s.

9 speed and 10 speed cassette are the same size.. they fit all the same wheels N hubs. only diff is the spacing between the rings and the thickness of the chain. you’ll need a new shifter, derailleur and chain to make a 10 speed work on a 9 speed.
Can you upgrade from Sora to 105?
If you want to upgrade from Sora to 105 level you should really think about a whole new bike. You won’t see the full benefit of 105 with Sora level frame, wheels etc. @ArgentiApparatus I know of bikes sold where the only difference is the Claris vs. 105 groupset.
Can I put a 11 speed cassette on a 9 speed hub?
The 11 spd cassette will fit fine on the freehub. The problem may be the 9 spd RD won’t handle the 46t cog. Derailleurs have a spec capacity and max cog size. Capacity is the difference between the smallest and largest cog plus the difference between the smallest and largest chainring.
