Is Evinrude ETEC being discontinued?
Evinrude motors parent company, Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP), announced last week that it would discontinue manufacturing of its Evinrude E-TEC and E-TEC G2 outboard engines. Instead, the company will focus on growing its boat brands and developing technology and innovation of other marine products.
Are ETEC outboards any good?

Does anyone buy Evinrude?

Is the Evinrude E-TEC reliable?
If fact, the E-TEC has proven more reliable than certain other outboards. BRP was so confident in the E-TEC’s reliability that the manufacturer specs state the motor needs no break-in period, and will run for 300 hours or 3 years between scheduled maintenance.
How reliable is Evinrude ETEC motors?
Not great, but very, very good. For the most part, the engine has always started reliably, and runs like a clock. Over the last 10 years, we’ve only had two problems that can be attributed to manufacturing or design issues: One fuel injector failed under warranty.
Did Evinrude get bought out?
BRP stepped in, purchased the brand, recalled bad engines, improved the technology and brought Evinrude back to the marketplace in 2003 with the launch of the E-TEC line of outboards.
