Can you take your car on the Cape May-Lewes Ferry?
The Cape May-Lewes Ferry can accommodate approximately 100 standard sized vehicles per crossing. Vehicles range from bicycles walked on board to cars, SUVs, motorcycles, RVs, tour buses and large tractor trailers carrying interstate cargo. Regardless of the size of your wheels, we look forward to welcoming you aboard.
Is there a shuttle at Cape May ferry?
Shuttle service is $6 per passenger, and advance reservations are required. To make a shuttle reservation, please call 800.643. 3779. The shuttle travels a single route between the Cape May terminal and the Cape May Welcome Center at 609 Lafayette Street; there are no other stops.
Can you walk from Cape May ferry to town?
It’s approximately 17 miles across the Delaware Bay from terminal to terminal. The downtown areas of Lewes, DE and Cape May, NJ are each a few miles from the Ferry terminals, and not within walking distance. Shuttle service is available seasonally.

Yes, you are welcome to park your car at either the Cape May or Lewes terminals, free of charge. If you need to leave your vehicle overnight you are welcome to do so, simply register your license plate at the ticket counter before departing.

Do they search your car on the Cape May ferry?
If you plan to travel the ferry be prepaired to have your privacy invaded. 1st When you arrive you will go through an x-ray scan. 2nd The ferry parking lot attendants will ask you to open your camper or large vehicle and have a look inside, (as they did with me).

Why can’t you stay in the car on a ferry?
The reason passengers are not allowed on the car decks on ferries is that it is illegal. The reason for it being illegal is of course safety, preventing theft from cars, fire hazards (people smoking in their own cars) etc. This is from Marine and Coast Guard Agency (UK) on ro-ro passenger ships.

Is there a shuttle from the Cape May terminal to the Welcome Center?
The shuttle runs a single route to/from the Cape May terminal to the Cape May Welcome Center, located at 609 Lafayette Street. Please note that Ferry-provided shuttle service is not currently available in Lewes, however the DART Route 204 Bus picks up and drops off every 1/2 hour from 6:30am – 9:00pm directly in front of the terminal.
