What is Sorbsan dressing?
Description. Sorbsan is made from the calcium salt of alginic acid, prepared as a textile fibre, and presented as a loose `rope’ or packing for cavities, a ribbon for narrow wounds or sinuses, and a flat non-woven pad for application to larger open wounds.

How long can a hydrocolloid dressing stay on?

What are the disadvantages of wound dressing?
Disadvantages: Gauze bandages do not stick to the skin or adhere well to wounds. This means that they cannot hold fluids or bacteria in the damage. They can also fall off at any time. As a result, this can cause more skin irritation on many occasions and lead to more pain for the patient.
Can you shower with alginate dressing?
If your wound does have a dressing then you can still bathe or shower. Dressings can absorb water and may require changing shortly after you shower so for this reason shower on the day the dressing is due to be changed. Showering is preferable to bathing, so that the wound does not ‘soak’ in water.
Do alginate dressings smell?
As well as their absorptive ability, alginates also have hemostatic properties. This sometimes lessens the number of dressing changes needed. Their disadvantages are that the gel formed may be foul-smelling or misleadingly appear purulent, and because they are non-adherent, a secondary dressing is needed.
Do you wet Aquacel before applying?
If the wound bed is relatively dry, it is recommended that AQUACEL® Ag Dressing is placed in the wound and then moistened with sterile saline over the wound area only.
