For Sunbrella Upholstery fabric, we recommend using a Round Point (Sharp) #16 size needle with V69 UV Poly or UV Nylon thread. Solution-dyed bonded polyester thread is the best choice for sewing outdoor fabric projects due to polyester’s high UV resistance and high strength resistance.
Can a regular sewing machine sew Sunbrella?
You’ll want to thread your machine with a strong thread, preferably one that is recommended for use with Sunbrella® Marine Grade Fabric. If you have a home machine, the largest size we suggest using is a V-69 thread, but if you have a heavy-duty machine, try a V-92.
Can Sunbrella fabric be sewn on regular sewing machine?
All Sunbrella fabrics can be sewn on a regular, domestic sewing machine, although the specifications do vary based on what fabric you are working with.
How do you cut Sunbrella fabric?
You can use regular scissors or shears to cut Sunbrella; however, the fabric will unravel. Only cut Sunbrella with scissors in your are sewing a double hem. Then the cut edge will be completely hidden from view and won’t be at risk of further unraveling.
Is there a right and wrong side to Sunbrella fabric?
Sunbrella® fabrics are also easy to sew – Use a V-69 thread with a #16 needle. There is no right nor wrong side to these upholstery fabrics, meaning either side can be exposed to the outside.
