Where do you park for Mission trails?

The entrance to the Visitor Center parking lot is on the left, just before the pipe gate, off Father Junipero Serra Trail. From Interstate 8 – Take 8 to the Mission Gorge Road/Fairmount Avenue exit. Turn north onto Mission Gorge Road, then east at the Friars Road junction, to stay on Mission Gorge Road.

It is a hike that is slightly steep and not for anyone who is a beginning hiker. We made it to about 1/3 of reaching the top and decided that we were not going to be able to make it to the end. Although we did see beautiful views, we will have to work up to this hike.

The trails climb about 2000 feet in less than 3 miles. Fit hikers should have not problem with this 6 mile hike, and beginners in reasonable shape may find the ascent tough, but manageable, with proper pacing and plenty of water. Hikes at Mission Peaks are best taken on cool days.
