What is coral red under Woods lamp?

Under examination with ultraviolet A light from a Wood’s lamp, the rash exhibited coral-red fluorescence (Panel B), a finding pathognomonic for erythrasma. This common disorder results from overgrowth of Corynebacterium minutissimum in the superficial stratum corneum of moist intertriginous and interdigital regions.

What can Wood’s lamp detect?

However, antibiotic susceptibility can vary, and susceptibility testing is recommended.

How did I get erythrasma?

Erythrasma is caused by the bacteria Corynebacterium minutissimum. Erythrasma is more common in warm climates. You are more likely to develop this condition if you are overweight, older, or have diabetes.

What color is healthy skin under a Woods Lamp?

The Wood’s lamp exam shows areas of skin that are pigmented, depigmented, or fluorescent. Normal, healthy skin appears blue under a Wood’s lamp and does not glow. It may show white spots where the skin is thick, yellow spots where it’s oily, or purple where it’s dehydrated.

What does purple mean on a Woods Lamp?

Indications. The Wood’s lamp can detect areas of skin that are pigmented or depigmented and can also detect fluorescence. Normal healthy skin appears as a blue color but may show white spots when the skin is thick and yellow when it is oily. Purple spots indicate dryness or dehydration.
