Are bass ukuleles good?

The bass ukulele is closer to a bass than a ukulele. If you already know how to play bass, the bass uke will be a natural second instrument for you. However, the playing technique is a lot different due to the bass uke’s short scale, low tension, and unique strings.

Is there such a thing as a bass ukulele?

Bass ukuleles typically have a hollow body and a soundhole, just like an acoustic bass. The sound is similar to upright bass, whereas solid-body ukuleles are more akin to gentle bass guitars. The tunning of these instruments equals the tunning of an electrical bass guitar (E-A-D-G).

How loud is a bass ukulele?

But acoustically these little ubasses really sound like an acoustic cigar-box bass, and they’re about as loud as an acoustic cigar-box bass too. Well maybe a little louder if you play near the bridge and punch it hard.

Can a ukulele player play bass?

Soprano, Concert, and Tenor ukuleles cannot fill the role of bass due to their pitch. To play bass on the ukulele you will need a Bass ukulele, which is a slightly larger instrument that is tuned like a bass guitar. The Soprano ukulele that most of us are familiar with is 21“.

Can I put bass strings on a ukulele?

Can I turn my ukulele to a bass?

The bass ukulele is tuned exactly like an upright bass or bass guitar, E-A-D-G. This is one full octave lower than the first four strings of a regular guitar, and two and a half octaves below standard ukulele tuning (g-c-e-a). These low frequencies can be hard to hear, not only for a person’s ear, but for a tuner!

Is bass easier than ukulele?

The ukulele is also a more popular instrument than the bass, and bass players are more in demand than ukulele players. If you are looking to learn songs on both the bass and uke, this will be significantly easier once you have learned some common chords on both.
