How long is DCT?
Dental Core Training (DCT) usually follows on from the 1st year of Dental Foundation Training (DFT). It can last for 3 years, but applicants can also train for just 1 or 2 years.

Dental Core Training Year 1 (DCT1) The trainee learns to manage patients referred from the primary care setting as well as, in many of the posts, the emergency treatment of victims of trauma and serious illness. Knowledge gained in dental school is applied and new skills learnt.

These posts are highly desirable for career development but are limited in number (around 700 across DCT1, 2 and 3). I was surprised that 61 posts lay vacant (September 2021), a vast majority of these within maxillofacial units. There may be several reasons for these vacancies.
