Are LS rod bolts torque to yield?
On a GM LS engine, the cylinder head bolts are TTY and cannot be re-used. The connecting rod bolts are also TTY, but can be tightened up to three times for bearing checking. The balancer bolt is also a torque-to-yield fastener.
What is the torque specs on a LS engine?

| Pressure Plate Bolts | 35 ft.-lbs. |
| Bellhousing Bolts | 25 ft.-lbs. |
Can you over torque rod bolts?
They aren’t trash if they are over-torqued but they shouldn’t be run that way. They will be more prone to failure at that torque setting so they should be re-torqued to the recommended value. The correct torque is very important for the life of the fastener.
Can you reuse LS rocker arm bolts?
The rocker arm bolts are strong enough to reuse. If you don’t feel good about it, get new ones, but make sure they are built strong enough.
Are LS 5.3 rod bolts reusable?
You can reuse the bolts. The stock rods are weak and usually break just above the large radius (no aftermarket (ARP) bolt will stop it)… If the rods are out, you should replace them with Compstar or equivalent/better; if you can afford it.
What are the torque specifications for a Chevy?
Small Block Chevy Torque Specs
| Fastener Type | Torque Spec |
|---|---|
| 3/8 in. Outer Main Cap Bolt | 40 ft.-lbs. |

Is torque angle necessary?
It is preferred that the fasteners are tightened using standard tightening tools. To avoid the need of any special tightening tools as servicing would be performed using standard equipment, torque-angle tightening method would meet most of the requirements.
What does 90 degrees mean on a torque wrench?
90° = quarter turn. 180° = half turn. It’s alright if you are off a few degrees.
Do you use Loctite on flexplate bolts?
Make sure to you ptfe or a teflon paste on the flexplate bolts with the blue or red loctite.
What is the torque on a flexplate?
These pads need to sit completely flat against the flexplate for proper contact. If these surfaces are not flat, dress them with a file. Install the flexplate onto the crankshaft at this time, using thread locker on the crank bolts. Torque 7/16 bolts in an even tightening sequence to 70 ft/lbs, ½ bolts to 80 ft/lbs.
What causes a connecting rod bearing to spin?
A spun bearing is usually the end result of a chain of unfortunate events. These include high operating loads, excessive heat and a loss of lubrication. Spun bearings are often blamed on a loss of oil pressure, but there can be numerous contributing factors that eventually cause the bearing to seize and spin.
What is stretch torque?
A torque to yield fastener (TTY) or stretch bolt is a fastener which is torqued beyond the state of elasticity and therefore undergoes plastic deformation, causing it to become permanently elongated.
