Can you camp in Prescott?

Camping on Prescott National Forest is limited to 14-days in 30-day consecutive period which includes stays at dispersed sites. (See Dispersed Camping for more information, and Prescott Basin Designated Dispersed Camping for restrictions to dispersed camping in the area surrounding the City of Prescott.)

Recreation: White Spar Campground is available year-round, but campsites are limited during the winter season.

Lynx Lake is a man-made lake of approximately 55 surface acres and is periodically stocked with trout. A valid fishing or combination license is required for resident and non-resident anglers 10 years of age or older fishing any public accessible water in Arizona.

Are Prescott Lakes open?

Watson Lake and Goldwater Lake recreation areas have been closed until further notice. This includes the trails that are inside the park boundaries. Willow Lake, Pioneer Park and other City of Prescott recreation areas remain open at this time.

How is fishing at Lynx Lake Prescott?

Anglers enjoy a wide variety of fish including Rainbow Trout, Largemouth Bass, Crappie and Catfish. An Arizona fishing license and a trout stamp is required for those older than 13 years of age. Bag limits are 6 trout and 6 bass per day but unlimited on crappie and catfish.

Why can’t you swim in the lakes in Prescott Arizona?

“The water quality is pretty good, the fish are good to eat and everything. But these lakes just don’t meet the state standards for swimming.” There also is the matter of rocks, logs and other hazards that may be in a body of water. There are rocks just below the surface of Watson and Willow lakes.

Can you swim in any lakes in Prescott?

Upon review of current conditions, no direct health and safety concerns currently exist, so Forest leadership has decided to allow swimming in all four lakes. While swimming is considered a compatible and suitable use of these lakes, the lakes will still be managed for multiple uses, including boating and fishing.

Area Status: Open Pine Flat Campground in scenic Oak Creek Canyon is one of the Forest’s most popular campgrounds. The scenery is unmatched, the stream is stocked with trout.
