Definition of fore edge : the edge of a book, book section, or illustration opposite the backbone.

What is book fore edge?

A fore-edge painting is a scene painted on the edges of book pages. There are two basic forms, including paintings on fanned edges and closed edges. For the first type, the book’s leaves must be fanned, exposing the pages’ edges for the picture to become visible.

What paint do you use to paint book edges?

The best acrylic paint I’ve found for DIY-ing book edges is Apple Barrel. It spreads nicely and doesn’t leave spots, as you can see on my DIY of Throne of Glass below. Use the dry sponge brush to spread a small amount of paint in a thin, even coat. The thicker it is, the harder it will be to separate the pages later, and you may end up ripping them. You can also use a flat, dense paintbrush, but the bristles may slip in between the pages and spread paint inside the book.
