Does Yaktrax work in the snow?
Despite their diminutive design, the Yaktrax Pro provide amazing traction on snow and packed snow and some additional traction on ice. They are also fine on cobblestone and pavement, even if they have a slightly cushy feel to them.
Are Yaktrax good?

Do yak tracks work on black ice?
I can walk at a normal pace and stride, whether the pavement is dry, wet, black ice, or covered with uneven ice/snow pack! It’s SO wonderful! Every time I take the YakTrax off I inspect them closely to see if the stainless steel wire has begun to cut through the rubber webbing that supports it.
Can you drive with Yaktrax?
Ensure they are aware that it is dangerous to wear Yaktrax® indoors, into shops or stations, while driving or cycling. Advise them that Yaktrax® will not protect them on hard pavement with just frost and patches of black ice.
Whats the difference between yaktrax Walker and pro?
Yaktrax Pro Where the Pro differs from the Walker is in a velcro strap across the top of the foot, which secures the upper over the shoe so that it won’t slide off and the coils will stay in place. This is a particularly useful feature in deep snow, where the Walker could get pulled off.
Can you wear Yaktrax on concrete?
Yaktrax® are not for use on gravel, concrete, or sanded roads cleared of snow. Avoid surfaces such as marble floors, or any non-icy, non-snowy surfaces when wearing Yaktrax®. Yaktrax® are not for indoor use. The improper use or installation of Yaktrax® could result in injury.
Does Yaktrax work in mud?
Mud can be just as slippery as ice, so go with traction (YakTrax or microspikes will suffice).
Are Yaktrax crampons?

How do I choose Yaktrax?
Sizing Tips:
- Yaktrax Walk and Yaktrax Pro sizes run small.
- If your shoe size is at the top of a size range shown in the Sizing Charts shown for Yaktrax Walk and Yaktrax Pro, you’re better off getting the next larger size.
- Choose the next larger size if you plan to wear Yaktrax over heavy boots or shoes.
Do Yaktrax damage shoes?
Poor fitting of Yaktrax® can lead to their loss or damage When wearing Yaktrax® the Yaktrax® coils should sit flat on the sole of the shoe or boot. The outer band of the Yaktrax® should grip the entire outside edge of the footwear.
Can you use Yaktrax for hiking?
Two traction devices we’ve used and liked for years are YakTrax and Kahtoola’s MICROspikes. Both of these are stretched over hiking boots or shoes, and can be removed relatively easily.

Does the Yaktrax top strap make a difference?
Compared to the original (walker) version, the top strap does make a significant difference in keeping the yak on your foot. The problem with the Yaktrax is that they shift left, right, fore and aft during use constantly. I completely lost one yak in deep snow.
How long does a pair of yaks last?
I went through 4 pairs of Yaks in as many years. Their lifespan is clearly one season at best with moderate use. I used to make my own version or the “pro” by tying an old shoelace across the top as a support strap before Yaks sold them this way.
