What is a pre-IB student?

The Pre-IB programme is specifically designed for students that have indicated a potential to be successful in the IB Diploma but may lack the skills that are necessary to access the IB programme and/or have not completed the first year of the IGCSE programme.

What is IB World History?

The IB Diploma Programme (DP) history course is a world history course based on a comparative and multi- perspective approach to history. It involves the study of a variety of types of history, including political, economic, social and cultural, and provides a balance of structure and flexibility.

What is pre-IB in high school?

Pre-IB classes have a strong emphasis on developing speaking and listening skills. Pre-AP Advanced Level classes have a strong emphasis on problem solving and critical thinking skills. Pre-IB classes are more integrated than Pre-AP Advanced Level classes due to an interdisciplinary focus.

Is IB history difficult?

Believe it or not, History HL is one of the hardest IB courses, with only a 2% success rate worldwide. What makes it difficult is that students have to provide critical discourses for historical sources. Additionally, they have to memorize the facts and write good essays.

What level is pre-IB?

Is Pre-IB the same as honors?

In order to prepare for the academic rigor of the eleventh and twelfth grade IB courses, during grades 9 and 10, IB students take state approved Pre-IB courses and some Honors courses; the Pre-IB courses at Gables are at a more accelerated level than corresponding Honors courses at regular high schools.

The course emphasizes the importance of encouraging students to think historically and to develop historical skills as well as gaining factual knowledge.

Is history SL easy?

It can certainly be a bit tricky. I was actually in a similar situation having only taken history in grade 9 (which was quite elementary), and then been thrust into History SL. I chose History SL because it was considered one of the easier social sciences in IB, plus our history SL course finished in a year.

Is Pre IB the same as honors?

Does Pre-IB count as honors?

∙ Pre-IB courses should be designated as ‘Honors Level’. classes should be designated as HL (Honors Level), even though they are not designated as University of California Honors classes. UC reps have suggested using this designation.

Should I take pre-IB?

Yes, students can enter the IBDP without having taken the Pre-IB program offered in Grade 10. However, it is recommended that students take the Pre-IB program in Grade 10 to support the development of the skills they will need to enhance their success in the IBDP.

Are Pre-IB classes weighted?

Yes. Nease Pre-IB courses receive honors weighting (+ 0.5) and IB courses receive the same weighting as Advanced Placement (AP) and Dual Enrollment (DE) courses (+ 1.0). *IB Science is a two-year program in one of three subjects: Biology, Physics or Chemistry.
