Why Mrauk u is famous?

Mrauk U is of great cultural importance to the local Rakhine (Arakanese) people, and is the location of many important archeological sites. From 1430 until 1785, it was the capital of the Mrauk U Kingdom, the largest and most powerful Rakhine kingdom in history.

MRAUK-U (80 kilometers or five hours by boat from Sittway) was the capital of the Arakanese kingdom between the 15th to the 18th century, and boasts more 1,500 ancient pagodas. It is where the Rakhine kings built their palaces and ruled over their people.
