Do they put you to sleep to put a stent in your heart?
General anesthesia isn’t needed. You’ll receive a sedative to help you relax, but you may be awake during the procedure depending on how deeply you are sedated. You’ll receive fluids, medications to relax you and blood-thinning medications (anticoagulants) through an IV catheter in your hand or arm.
How long does heart stent surgery take?
A coronary angioplasty usually takes between 30 minutes and 2 hours, although it can take longer. You’ll be asked to lie on your back on an X-ray table. You’ll be linked up to a heart monitor and given a local anaesthetic to numb your skin.
Can you go home the same day after a stent?
