What are copper shims used for?

Copper shims are typically used in the electronics world to protect your CPU from suffering unneeded damage. Many people state that this is a silly and unnecessary step to take when building a mining rig or your own PC and the instances where a CPU is damaged are few and far between.

A copper shim works by adding a layer of copper between the PCB of the CPU and your heat sink that is the same height as the core of your processor. Today I will be explaining why it is important to spend an extra ~$3 plus shipping to protect your CPU.

Using a laptop while charging it is okay. You don’t need to worry about overcharging or overheating because it is less likely to happen. A laptop with a lithium-ion battery doesn’t overcharge because of the battery’s mechanism.

No, generally you don’t need to reapply thermal paste in case of laptop CPUs. Applying thermal paste on a laptop CPU is going to be a difficult feat, you’ll need to disassemble it open to the motherboard which in itself is pretty delicate and can leave you with a paperweight.
