What is solid state soft starter?

A solid state starter (or soft starter) controls the starting torque and current of an AC motor electronically by controlling the applied voltage.

Variable frequency drive or VFD and soft starter are both two different types of motor starter. Since both of these use semiconductor components to operate, people mostly confuse them with one another. Both of them can be used to safely start & stop an induction motor.
