How do I put my DD-WRT router into bridge mode?

To get it to work the DD-WRT router is in some sort of bridge mode….Even with their basic (non DD-WRT) firmware one can do this by:

  1. disabling DHCP,
  2. using only LAN ports for wired connection,
  3. setting up the device (LAN interface) IP to something that doesn’t collide with anything else in the network.

What is a client bridge vs Access Point?

The distinction is important: A wireless access point connects users to a network by creating a wireless signal they can use. A bridge, in contrast, connects separate networks —your preexisting wireless home network to all of the devices connected to the bridge.

Does bridge mode extend WIFI?

By using bridge mode, you can extend the range of your business’s Wi-Fi. If your business operates in a large office or other large commercial space, a single router may not suffice. You may get coverage near the router.

Is bridge same as extender?

Wireless bridges and repeaters are two networking devices. The wireless version of a repeater is called a “range extender.” A wireless bridge enables non-wireless devices to connect to wireless networks. These two devices have very little in common.

How do I set up a DD-WRT client bridge?

If the remote network behind your remote DD-WRT “client bridge” radio is simple, you may not ever encounter a problem. [edit]V23 Firmware In the V23 firmware, you can set up the bridge from the Wireless->Wireless Mode menu.

How do I set up a client bridge on my router?

Go to the Wireless -> Basic Settings page and change the wireless mode to “Client Bridge”. Set the Wireless Network Name (SSID) to exactly match the primary router. Check spelling and case! Set Ack timing to 0 unless you have a long distance (>300 meter) link (Optional with broadcom routers)

Should I use client bridge mode or WDS?

So I choose Client Bridge mode. Based on the wiki page from DD-WRT. Only use this or Repeater Bridge mode if all of the others are unsuitable: WDS, Client, Repeater, or AP. Client Bridge will never be as stable as any of those modes. It is by design a hack and not a true transparent bridge like WDS.

How do I set up DD-WRT WebUI?

Connect a cable from your computer to the LAN port on your router. Set your computer to a static IP address of 192.168.1.9 Set your browser to 192.168.1.1 and open the dd-wrt webUI. Set a username and password, if not asked for this, do a proper reset.
