What are the CAS requirements for IB?

Students must earn a total of 150 hours over the 4 years. Students may begin earning CAS hours as early as the summer prior to 9th grade entry. Each activity MUST be pre-approved. Only activities completed during non-school hours may count.

What does CAS IB mean?

Creativity, activity, service (CAS) is one of the three essential elements that every student must complete as part of the Diploma Programme (DP). Studied throughout the Diploma Programme, CAS involves students in a range of activities alongside their academic studies.

What counts as CAS hours IB?

There is no hour counting for CAS. Rather, students should participate in a variety of CAS experiences (with at least one project) over an 18 month period. This does not mean that students must do something for CAS every day.

Does the IB check CAS?

the journals are randomly checked, yes, but just to make sure they fulfil the guidelines. otherwise it is your IB co-ordinator who justifies that you have completed them, thats all.

How do you submit CAS to IB?

Click IB Moderator Access under the CAS tab of your IB year group….IB Moderator Access

  1. Select the students to submit (including a fourth exemplary student if you’d like)
  2. Attach a signed authorization letter.
  3. Click Save Changes to allow the IB access to these students’ CAS files through ManageBac.

How many community service hours is IB?

As required by the International Baccalaureate Programme, all students are expected to volunteer for various programs and/or activities throughout the weekday or on weekends. Students in the Enriched program are required to complete a minimum of 18 hours of community service each year.

What happens if I fail CAS?

A failure to complete and provide evidence for completion is considered a failing condition for the entire Diploma (although candidates are given another year to finish their CAS program if they fail, and if they complete it in this time they will receive their diploma.

What activities count for CAS?

What counts towards Activity? Participation in expeditions or hikes, individual and team sports, physical activities outside the normal curriculum. It entails physical exertion. Examples: cross country, race for the cure, team sports, building house for Habitat for Humanity, coaching, training for a marathon.

Does volunteering count as CAS?

Volunteer work completed in the summer before you became a grade 10 student does not count, but you can work on your CAS in the summers between grade 11 and 12.

At-home CAS activities

  1. Cooking. Your family will appreciate it if you cultivate your cooking and baking skills!

  4. Gardening.

How many CAS hours do you need?

Creativity Action Service Requirements IB Diploma candidates are required to complete 150 CAS hours. These hours must be distributed in each of the three areas below. Projects may include two to three aspects and these projects are the most beneficial to students.

What can I do for IB Diploma CAS activities?

Joining a club at school (you might do that anyway)

  • Organizing a bake sale (it’s fun and you get food!)
  • Jogging (honestly the best activity for ‘action’ there is)
  • Doing yoga
  • Tutoring kids (Idk if it’s low effort but I thoroughly enjoyed it)
  • Volunteer as a mentor for freshmen (if it’s a thing at your school)
