Can you be HIV negative and still have symptoms?

A false negative is a test result that says a person does not have HIV when, in fact, they do. False negative results most often occur when people test in the first few weeks after infection, during the ‘window period’ of a test.

Can you have AIDS if you are HIV negative?

No. Testing positive for HIV does not mean you have AIDS. AIDS is the most advanced stage of HIV disease. HIV can lead to AIDS if not treated.

What are negative HIV effects?

If untreated HIV advances to AIDS, the body becomes prone to opportunistic infections. AIDS increases a person’s risk for many infections, including a herpes virus called cytomegalovirus (CMV). It can cause problems with the eyes, lungs, and digestive tract.
