What does seachem SeaGel do?

Overview. SeaGel™ is a blend of MatrixCarbon™ and PhosGuard™ and is is optimized specifically for aquaria where organic color body and acid removal is required without the introduction of phosphate. MatrixCarbon™ is an ultracapacity carbon for the removal of organic and color impurities.

How fast does PhosGuard work?

PhosGuard™ needs to be replaced every 4 days as long as there is a phosphate problem because, given an infinite amount of available phosphate, PhosGuard™ absorbs phosphate so quickly that it reaches its full capacity in 4 days.

How do you use Purigen?

Purigen can be placed in any filter, including external/internal filter, HOB filter and sump filter. Purigen should be inserted in an area where there is a strong current. Also, place your purigen in such a position that it would be the last filter the water passes through before it enters back into the tank.

How do you use seachem carbon matrix?

Use in a filter bag. Rinse before use. For best results, MatrixCarbon™ should be placed so as to maximize the flow of water through it. It may be used in a canister filter, chemical filtration module, box filter, or any high flow area of a trickle filter.

Will PhosGuard remove algae?

If you have brown algae, then you need this to remove these things the algae feeds off of. As for the filter usage: our pump on our 55Gal tank has two large rectangular filters that the water flows thru like a waterfall. With those filters it is easy to add the PhosGuard.

How long does it take for seachem matrix to work?

Results. After roughly four months of testing Seachem Matrix, I am pretty confident to say that it does work to reduce nitrate levels in the aquarium. Though not quite how you might expect it to.

Can you use too much Matrix?

An overdose of Matrix™ may take up space that is needed for other types of medias, but in most cases, there is no such thing as too much bio-media, as the material itself is non-reactive and the beneficial bacteria colonies in this media only grow as large as they need to be to process the amount of waste that is …

Does matrix increase pH?

A: No, It is an inert media that will not directly impact your pH.

Does Matrix remove nitrates?

These macropores are ideally sized for the support of nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria. This allows Matrix™, unlike other forms of biomedia, to remove nitrate along with ammonia and nitrite, simultaneously and in the same filter. Matrix™ is completely inert and will not breakdown.

Do I need phosphate remover in aquarium?

In truth, most aquarium systems are quite full of phosphate. To avoid algal blooms, among other issues, phosphate removal is key. The surest way to remove phosphates (assuming purified freshwater is used to make the new saltwater) is old-fashioned aquarium water changes.

How do I get rid of excess phosphate in my aquarium?

Water Changes One of the fastest ways to get rid of phosphates in aquarium water is to do a partial water change. You can do a 25% or even a 30% water change per week if there is way too much-dissolved phosphate in the water.

Can algae grow without phosphate?

According to every reputable source on the matter1, phosphates are essential for microorganisms (like algae) to grow and reproduce. And while phosphates are essential to algae, removing phosphates from water does not kill algae. Only sanitizers–like chlorine–and EPA-registered algaecides will kill algae.

Do low nitrates cause algae?

Poor distribution of CO2 and nutrients is also a common cause of algae. It is talked about widely that that lowering nitrates and phosphates (two vital nutrients) will reduce algae outbreaks, when actually, algae thrives in a low-nutrient environment.

How do I use Seachem SEAgel™?

For best results, SeaGel™ should be rinsed before use and placed in your filter so as to maximize the flow of water through it. Use caution, since product will fizz and heat on initial wetting. Use 250 mL for each 150–225 L (40–60 US gallons). Use in a filter bag such as Seachem’s The Bag™ or Zip Bag™. SeaGel™ will function 3–4 months.

Can SEAgel™ be used in freshwater?

SeaGel™ may also be used in freshwater that is not phosphate buffered. SeaGel™ is optimized specifically for aquaria where organic color body and acid removal is required without the introduction of phosphate.

What is phosguard and SEAgel™?

PhosGuard™ is a powerful remover of phosphate, silicate, toxic metals, and acids. Both components are bead shaped for optimum water flow characteristics and penetration. The components enhance each other and are ideal for reef and marine use. SeaGel™ may also be used in freshwater that is not phosphate buffered.

Does SEAgel™ remove trace minerals?

A: Carbon (like our MatrixCarbon™ which makes up 50% of SeaGel™) will not have a major impact on trace minerals. However, it is likely to remove only an insignificant amount i.e. SeaGel™ will not remove trace elements to any significant degree.
