How does pickup height affect bass tone?

Therefore, in my opinion, pickup height in relation to your strings does make a tonal difference. Raise your pickups as high as you can and you will also expierence a tonal change, sometimes creating issues and a fuzzy out of phase tone on some basses. Try it out for yourself, it’s easy to reverse.

How high should bass strings be above pickups?

Fender recommends 2mm space between the underside of the string and the polepiece for the treble- and 2.8mm space for the bass side for J- and P-basses.

What is the correct pickup height?

We recommend between somewhere close to 5/64″ on the bridge pickup, and about 4/64″ on the neck. Keep in mind, these are measurements on the Low-E side. On the High-E, we might suggest you move it just a tad closer (say 1/64″ on each pickup). Adjusting height is easy.

Thunderbird Pickups? Discussion in ‘ Pickups & Electronics [BG] ‘ started by Travelrock, Sep 4, 2014 . Been looking to “recharge” my Gibson Thunderbird (from 2011) with better pickups. There seems to be three good options; Lull, Lollar and Thunderbucker.

Should I replace the Black pickups on my Thunderbird bass?

I’m sure they would sell lots more with something similar to my new pups (and closer to the pups they once did on their vintage T-birds). I would recommend anyone (everyone) with a modern Thunderbird bass with those original black pickups to replace them – I doubt anyone will regret doing so.

Why doesn’t my T-Bird pickup pick up 5 strings?

I love the tone. The potential issue is that a typical vintage/reproduction T-bird pickup may not be able to sense all 5 strings well enough. If that’s the case, Thunderbucker ranch has a version with a modified magnetic field, for 5 strings.

Should I put T-Bird pickups in a Carvin lb?

The tone is good, but putting T-bird pickups into it is not practical. As it is routed for P2 size pickups and there’s just no cool way I can think of to cover that upl. Carvin’s LB also has a narrow spacing neck.
