What does PCM mean on TV sound?

Pulse-Code Modulation
Pulse-Code Modulation (PCM) and the Dolby Digital® technology refer to different types of digital audio recordings. PCM is the conventional method for converting analog audio into digital audio. The PCM audio recorded on DVD is a two-channel digital, stereo audio track.

Is PCM better than HDMI?

On the other hand, most audio players only support the PCM format while transmitting sound. That means you should check the compatibility of your device when choosing between the two. HDMI is easily the best option for output. However, if you use either digital or optical coaxial outputs, Bitstream is the clear winner.

Should I set my TV to PCM?

Note: If you select Bitstream, but do not have a home theater system or soundbar connected, then the TV will process the audio in addition to outputting it. This can often result in reduced volume or other loss in audio quality. We recommend to select PCM when using the TV’s speakers.

Should I set my TV to PCM or RAW?

Raw is for ‘bitstream’. It will pass DD, DTS or PCM stereo. PCM is for PCM stereo only. So it should be set to RAW.

What is the best sound mode for Samsung TV?

Samsung – Recommended TV Audio Settings

Sound Mode: Menu → Sound → Sound Mode → Set to Standard
Dialog Clarity: Menu → Sound → Sound Effect → Dialog Clarity → Set to Off
Equalizer: Menu → Sound → Sound Effect → Equalizer → Set all values in the center
SRS TruSurround HD: Menu → Sound → SRS TruSurround HD → Set to Off

Is HDMI or optical better?

The major difference is that HDMI cables can pass higher resolution audio which includes formats found on Blu-ray like Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD Master audio. Fiber optic cables won’t be able to transmit these high-res sound formats. HDMI can also pass video signals.

How do I activate PCM on my TV?

Setting sound for digital audio output

  1. Press the HOME button, then select [Settings].
  2. Select [Sound] → [Digital Audio Out] → [Auto] or [PCM]. Select [Auto] if the device connected via DIGITAL AUDIO OUT (OPTICAL) is compatible with Dolby Digital. Select [PCM] if the device is not compatible with Dolby Digital.
