What is the best parting system for locs?

The parting systems that are most commonly used for starting locs are the square parting system, diamond parting system, crescent parting system, and the organic parting system.

How often should you Retwist locs in the beginning?

every six week
Retwist frequency depends on whether you are in the starter loc phase or you have mature locs. It also depends on the type of locs you have, your hair type and your retwist method. Starter locs should be washed monthly or no more than every six week. If you interlock, you can go as long as eight weeks between retwists.

Is 100 locs a lot?

For medium-sized traditional locs, you’ll need to create anywhere from 51 – 100 locs. If you have thin hair and you want pencil-sized locs, you should lean more towards 51 locs. And if your hair is on the thicker side, go for closer to 100 locs. For small traditional locs, you’ll need around 101 to 150 locs.

How many locs make a full head?

If you ask any dread head how many locs they have, the number will almost always be different. The average ranges between 40 and 75 but don’t get your heart set on a number. I understand there are people who have great volume, neat locs, and long hair.

Do parts matter with locs?

Your Parting Pattern Matters Section size also influences the size of your locs. Smaller sections will produce smaller locs, and larger sections will produce larger locs, relative to the density of your hair. If your parts are irregular, your locs will also be irregular in size.

How big should dread sections be?

Section Sizing Chart

Section Size Dreadlock Size Total Approx. # of Locks
1″ pencil-sized 60 – 70
1 1/4″ pen-sized 50 – 60
1 1/2″ > sharpee-sized 40 – 50
1 3/4″ sharpee-sized 30 – 40

Should dreads have a middle part?

It can be smack in the middle of your head or you can have a row of dreads down the middle. Don’t spend too much time on this one because in the end both ways work fine. It’s more a matter of personal preference than anything else. One guideline is to follow any strong natural parts you may have.
