Does DD-WRT support bridge mode?

A router running DD-WRT v24 is able to create a wireless bridge. The bridging mode is selected from a drop down menu on the Wireless > Basic Settings page. There are several variations on bridging.

How do I put DD-WRT into bridge mode?

Go to Setup -> Advanced Routing and change the operating mode from “gateway” to “router”. Go to Wireless->Wireless Security and set the security type and key from the primary router. Click SAVE, and then APPLY. Go to the Wireless->Basic Settings page and change the wireless mode to Client Bridged(Routed).

What’s the difference between client bridge and repeater bridge?

A Client Bridge can connect disparate pieces of a company of home network that were previously unable to connect through a router. The intended use for a Repeater is to take a wireless signal from a network and giving it a new-found, extended range.

What is a client bridge vs access point?

The distinction is important: A wireless access point connects users to a network by creating a wireless signal they can use. A bridge, in contrast, connects separate networks —your preexisting wireless home network to all of the devices connected to the bridge.

What’s the difference between client bridge and Repeater bridge?

Which is faster bridge or repeater?

By dividing your machines into two networks and linking them by a bridge, you may get better overall performance than you would from a web of repeaters. You can also use most bridges to connect a wired device to a wireless network, as bridges can usually connect to both wired and wireless clients.

Is AP mode better than repeater?

Access points (or routers set as access points) are almost always better than repeaters/extenders, as the radios can work full-time to serve clients and you get much better speeds.

What is client bridge mode on the La Fonera?

Client Bridge mode can be used on the La Fonera to turn it from a router receiving a network connection through it’s WAN RJ45 port (from a host router or modem), to a wireless adapter receiving a network connection through it’s wireless interface (from a host router).

How do I upgrade the DD-WRT firmware on my Fonera?

To upgrade the DD-WRT firmware on your Fonera, follow the Upgrade Flashing guide. svn co svn://svn.dd-wrt.com/DD-WRT DD-WRT will download the complete source-files in a directory called DD-WRT.

How does the Fonera work?

In other words, the Fonera acts as a portable network port, only needing a power cable, allowing connections to your network and internet connection. It can also act as the source of a new wireless network with separate SSID.

How do I connect my Fonera to the host router?

You can then plug a device (Laptop, PC, Games console, etc) in to the RJ-45 port of the Fonera that connects the device to the network of the host router, allowing access to any internet connection or network file shares on that network.
