What is pentacam eye test?

The Pentacam Comprehensive Eye Scanner is a rotating camera that photographs both the anterior (front) and posterior (back) surfaces and other areas of the cornea (the front part of the eye).

What does orbscan measure?

The Orbscan technology takes pachymetry (measurements) optically without touching the cornea. This allows a measurement reading for the entire cornea; rather than a measurement at just one point.

How do you read pentacam results?

A value between 0 to -1 is considered normal and indicates a prolate shape (steep centre and flat periphery). A value >0 indicates an oblate cornea (flat centre and steep periphery) and a value < -1 indicates a hyperprolate cornea as seen in corneal ectasia.

How much does a pentacam cost?

Some slit-scanning devices: Orbscan (Bausch + Lomb); Pentacam (Oculus); and Galilei G2 (Ziemer). The average cost of these instruments is $50,000. Some manufacturers also offer instruments that combine corneal topography with full optical wavefront aberrometry.

What is the pentacam used for?

The Pentacam system is commonly used in clinical practice for its myriad functions, including evaluation of cataracts, glaucoma screening, advanced calculations for the power of intraocular lenses, guiding deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty, and imaging of post-LASIK or photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) eyes.

What does pentacam measure?

What does the Pentacam assess? The cornea – a Pentacam scan provides qualitative data used to assess the cornea. This includes topography and elevation maps of the anterior and posterior corneal surface, in addition to central and peripheral pachymetry.

What information do pentacam scans give?

The cornea – a Pentacam scan provides qualitative data used to assess the cornea. This includes topography and elevation maps of the anterior and posterior corneal surface, in addition to central and peripheral pachymetry. The capture of pachymetry allows for pachymetry-based IOP correction.

Is keratoconus a value?

An I-S value between 1.4 and 1.9 diopters suggests a keratoconus suspect, while a larger value suggests clinical keratoconus. A lower value suggests a normal variant cornea. But they also admitted that the differences in videokeratography indexes between keratoconus suspect and normal eyes are subtle.

What is the use of pentacam?

Is pentacam test painful?

The procedure itself is painless and brief. It is a noncontact examination that photographs the surface of the eye. Pentacam is not a routine test. Rather, it is used in diagnosing certain types of problems, in evaluating a disease’s progression, in fitting some types of contact lenses, and in planning surgery.

What does a pentacam measure?

What is Contoura eye surgery?

Contoura Vision TopoGuided LASIK is a new technology designed to enhance the effects of LASIK. It corrects the vision based on the corneal topography (corneal curvature maps) as against the correction of vision in a standard LASIK surgery which is only based on glasses or contact lens prescription.

How is keratoconus diagnosed?

Diagnosis. Diagnosis can be made by slit-lamp examination and observation of central or inferior corneal thinning. Computerized videokeratography is useful in detecting early keratoconus and allows following its progression. Ultrasound pachymetry can also be used to measure the thinnest zone on the cornea.

How does the pentacam work?

The Pentacam (Model HR, Oculus, Inc., Wetzlar, Germany) is a hybrid Placido-Scheimpflug device that rotates around the eye 180 degrees in 2 seconds, producing 50 images of both corneal surfaces and 138,000 elevation points to create a three-dimensional (3D) representation of the cornea (Fig. 11.5).

What causes keratoconus?

What causes keratoconus? Although keratoconus has been studied for decades, it remains poorly understood. The definitive cause of keratoconus is unknown, though it is believed that the predisposition to develop the disease is present at birth. A common finding in keratoconus is the loss of collagen in the cornea.

Who makes the pentacam?

OCULUS Optikgeräte GmbH
OCULUS Optikgeräte GmbH is a family-run business located in Wetzlar, Germany. Since 1895, OCULUS has been a partner for eye care professionals around the world. With about 245 employees, OCULUS consistently develops and produces an extensive range of over 150 products at their headquarters in Wetzlar.

How is pentacam done?

The Pentacam takes images of your cornea by using a rotating camera, thus producing a 3D photo of the interior part of your eye. When evaluating patients for LASIK, one of the key pieces of data is elevation analysis at the center of the cornea, and with this rotating camera, that measurement is very precise.

Which is better LASIK or Contoura?

Following are some of the difference between Contoura vision surgery and LASIK: Better results: The results of Contoura surgery are better as compared to LASIK in terms of visual clarity and correction in refractive error. Some of the patients experience corrections better than 6/6.

Is Orbscan more accurate than Pentacam for posterior corneal parameters?

Compared with Pentacam values, the postop changes with the Orbscan were significantly greater for all posterior corneal parameters except P-AX5 ( p =0.045) and P-TG5 ( p =0.062). The researchers admit the Orbscan’s limitations and possible sources of error, as well as the relatively small sample size, limit their findings.

Can the Orbscan IIz image the posterior corneal surface?

The Orbscan IIz is unique among corneal topographers in its ability to image the posterior surface of the cornea. Early signs of certain corneal diseases or abnormalities are seen first on the posterior corneal surface. On this map, you can see: Top two images: Shape maps of the surface elevation of the front and back of the cornea.

What is Orbscan corneal analysis system?

Orbscan Corneal Topographer Bausch and Lomb Orbscan IIz Corneal Analysis System This optical mapping or corneal topography system mapping system is a diagnostic tool that shows the overall architecture of the cornea including surface power, thickness, front and back shape.

What can I See with the Orbscan IIz?

The Orbscan IIz is unique among corneal topographers in its ability to image the posterior surface of the cornea. Early signs of certain corneal diseases or abnormalities are seen first on the posterior corneal surface. On this map, you can see:
