Are 1157 and 2357 bulbs the same?
The life expectancy of the 2357 bulb is shorter than that of the 1157. The low filaments have the same life expectancy rating at 5000 hours, but the high filament of the 2357 bulb is much shorter than that of the 1157, with the 2357 rated at 400 hours vs. 1200 hours for the 1157.

Moderator. 7506 is Osram’s number for a type P21W bulb. P21W and 1156 are very similar. They aren’t identical, but they are functionally interchangeable in many cases as long as the 1156 one uses has a nickel-plated base and not a plain brass one.

Is 1156 and 7507 the same?
You may notice that the 1156 and 7507 bulbs have tabs on the base that do not exactly match. The 1156’s tabs are 180 degrees while the 7507 tabs are 150 degrees. The brake lights are on, but the 1157 bulb only puts out about 27W for brake lights. Tried the LED lights, but not happy with them. Their output was more focused than an 1157 bulb, but not as bright. A 2357 bulb is a direct replacment of the 1157.

The 1157 is an 18W light on the brighter filament. That’s already pretty hot. If you want brighter with LESS power, the Luxeon 3W LED bulbs fit the socket and are brighter than stock (also last longer).
Do the 2357’s work with the brakes on?
I went ahead with the 2357’s and they work fine, but they don’t seem all that much brighter with the brakes on. Of course, I’m observing this in daylight, so I’ll take a look tonight after darek.
