With all the attention to gravel these days, don’t forget that the Zipp 303 S is absolutely a great wheelset for road riding and racing.
Are Zipp 303 good for climbing?
RELATED: Zipp’s Firecrest 202 and 303 The 303 is light enough (1,625g per pair) to make a good climbing wheel, and I find they have a smooth, quiet ride quality to them, without the buzzy, undamped feel of some high-end carbon wheels.
What Zipp 303?
Zipp 303 is our go-to wheelset for all-roads ahead. Our most popular family of wheels was born of Zipp’s drive to conquer the Spring Classics. Zipp’s drive to develop a carbon wheelset tough enough to thrive on the cobbles resulted in innovations that made the 303 our most popular family of wheels.
Can Zipp 303 go tubeless?
We took a look at how we wanted to introduce it and how we wanted to do it,” said Michael Hall, Zipp’s advanced project manager. “The 303 made sense because it’s such a popular wheel and a lot of people use it for cyclocross.” Finally, Zipp has introduced a tubeless-ready carbon rim, and they’re starting with the 303.
Are Zipp 303 Firecrest worth it?
I tested the 303 Firecrests through winter and early spring and in some pretty challenging windy conditions, and have been impressed with the ease with which they remain controlled in high crosswinds. You do feel pressure on the front wheel but it’s easy to counter by leaning into the wind, no bar grappling required.
Are Zipp 303 Firecrest fast?
In a nutshell the new Zipp 303 Firecrest is wide, it’s light, it’s fast, it’s made for tubeless tyres only and it will cost you a lot less than you think… but that’s only the half of it, there’s something far bigger that Zipp has discovered in testing this new wheelset, so let’s get into the nitty gritty.
Is Zipp 303 Firecrest worth it?
The 303 Firecrest get my highest marks for weight, ride quality, climbing, and out-and-out speed thanks to exemplary control. If you’re a slim tyre user (less than 28s that is), maybe the wide 25mm internal measure of the Firecrest isn’t for you and there is no rim brake option on Zipp’s new generation wheels either.
What’s the difference between Zipp 302 and 303?
The existing 302 has an internal rim width of 16.25mm whereas the new 303 S is boosted nearly 7mm to 23mm. Externally it’s just 2mm wider than the 302 at 27mm compared to 25mm.
What is the difference between Zipp Firecrest and NSW?
Zipps says the 404 Firecrest wheelset is 370g lighter, 4 watts faster and £720 cheaper, while the 454 NSW is more than 450g lighter, 10 watts faster and £370 cheaper.
