How Do Structural Rivets Work? Structural rivets work slightly different from the typical blind rivet. This is commonly referred to as an interlock rivet.

What is a Huck rivet?

Huck structural rivets are a one-piece fastener that work a little differently to standard rivets, as there is an internal mechanism that locks a portion of the pin (mandrel) inside the rivet’s body. This creates an additional layer of material that assists in increasing the rivets strength.

A blind bolt is a fastener designed to deliver more strength and longer performance than a rivet or weld. They are called “blind” because they are installed from only one side of the material to be joined, which is very useful for repair and manufacturing applications.

Are rivets stronger than bolts?

A benefit of the hollow shafts and softer metals used for pop rivets is that it makes removal relatively easy. A drill bit can be easily seated in the hollow end and used to remove the head. By contrast, solid rivets are perhaps the strongest mechanical fastener available.

What does a stop nut do?

Nylon insert lock nuts—also known as nylon nuts and stop nuts—are a prevailing torque, locking nut that resists loosening caused by vibration and normal use. Unlike free spinning hex nuts, lock nuts make use of a deforming elastic or metal material to stay in position against torque and shock.

How do Lockbolts work?

Clamp Force or Pre-Load This progressively locks (swages) it into the grooves of the harder pin. The pin and swaged collar combine to form the installed fastener. The squeezing action reduces the diameter of the collar, increasing its length. This in turn stretches the pin, generating a clamp force over the joint.

What are the three types of Lockbolts?

The pins of pull- and stump-type lockbolts are made of heat-treated alloy steel or high strength aluminum alloy. Companion collars are made of aluminum alloy or mild steel. The blind lockbolt consists of a heat-treated alloy steel pin, blind sleeve and filler sleeve, mild steel collar, and carbon steel washer.
