What do phytoseiulus Persimilis eat?

Larvae of P. persimilis do not feed, but adults and nymphs prey on all stages of spider mites. Phytoseiulus persimilis is a voracious feeder, having the highest known consumption rate of all Phytoseiidae. Adults consume 5 to 20 prey (eggs or mites) per day.

Excessive nitrogen leads to small compounds known as”funny proteins.” These proteins don’t help the plant, but they do make plant sap sweeter, leading to an increased attack of sucking insects like spider mites. To avoid this problem, apply a balanced spectrum of nutrients, and only apply what your plant needs.

How do you attract Persimilis?

persimilis was significantly attracted to candy mint (1, 2 and 4 gFW; P < 0.01) and spearmint (2 and 4 gFW; P < 0.05) but not apple mint (1, 2 and 4 gFW; P > 0.05). Based on these results, we concluded that candy mint and spearmint volatiles serve as attractants for P. persimilis, and used them for subsequent assays.

Do ladybugs eat red mites?

Phytoseiulus persimilis has a lower oviposition rate on other genera of spider mites, such as Panonychus or Oligonychus ( Ashihara et al., 1978 ), while Phytoseiulus longipes showed no reproduction on Panonychus citri (McGregor) and only a low rate on Oligonychus punicae ( Badii & McMurtry, 1984 ).
