How many Taxol treatments are there for breast cancer?

Taxol, Taxotere, and Abraxane (chemical name: albumin-bound or nab-paclitaxel) are all taxanes. In the AC followed by T regimen, a taxane is usually given as 4 treatments over 12 weeks — 1 treatment every 3 weeks.

Why is Taxol given weekly?

The rationale for dose-dense weekly paclitaxel in the treatment of breast cancer is that more frequent delivery of more moderate doses may achieve greater efficacy than larger doses given less often through more sustained exposure of dividing tumor cells to cytotoxic drugs.

Is Taxol given every week?

This combination often is abbreviated as AC-T. The two parts of the regimen – the Adriamycin-Cytoxan and the Taxol – are given on either a weekly, low-dose schedule or an every-two week schedule with a higher dose.

How long is a cycle of Taxol?

Each cycle usually lasts 3 weeks (21 days). Depending on your cancer type you might have up to 8 cycles which can take up to about 6 months. Your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist will explain your treatment plan to you and what to expect.

Do you lose hair with weekly Taxol?

The drugs paclitaxel (“Taxol”) and docetaxel (“Taxotere “), nearly always cause complete alopecia when given in a third weekly schedule, but hair loss is less frequent when the drugs are given in a weekly schedule. Certain other drugs, like Novantrone, cause hair loss in about 20 per cent of cases.

Do you always lose your hair with Taxol?

Paclitaxel causes hair loss. Most people will lose all their hair, including eyebrows, eyelashes and body hair. You may begin to lose your hair about two weeks after the first treatment, but it can happen earlier.

Does hair grow back on weekly Taxol?

If you are on weekly taxol, and have 12 rounds, you may well see regrowth before you finish your chemo. This can happen with other regimens too, particularly those that have many cycles and those where we see really good retention.

Is Taxol easier than AC chemo?

A/C definately For me – A/C was so much easier than Taxol. Actually other than loosing hair on head, loosing taste and appetite, A/C wasn’t that bad at all. I was a bit tired 2 days after infusion for 2 days but could lay down and rest and feel better – then was basically back to doing everything ‘normally’.

How will I feel on Taxol?

You may feel sick (nausea) although this is usually mild and most people will not actually be sick (vomit). You may start to feel unwell a few hours after your treatment. You’ll be given anti-sickness medication, as tablets or into a vein, before each cycle of chemotherapy.

How well is weekly Taxol tolerated?

Based on phase II and III trials Taxol administered in the form of three times/week 1 or 3 hr infusion as mono-or combined chemotherapy of breast cancer is an effective treatment option. These studies proved that this form of drug delivery is effective and well tolerated and the overall response rate is around 50%.

Can you drink coffee on Taxol?

In fact, other studies have shown that women who have been treated with Adriamycin or Taxol should totally avoid coffee, as the caffeic acid in the coffee may reduce the effectiveness of these drugs.
