Originally Reveille was given free reign of the campus. However, since 1960, she has been cared for by a Mascot Corporal, a sophomore cadet in Company E-2.

She’s a Rough Collie, and there have been 10 of them since 1931, when the first Reveille assumed mascot duties (though the first pure bred wasn’t until Reveille III). Reveille X assumed her duties in May 2021.
Why is Reveille a collie?
The first pure-bred collie was donated to the university in 1966, and the tradition of Reveille being a collie was born. When the students voted on whether or not to keep a collie as the breed of choice, students felt that the collie was fit for the job of mascot.

When was Reveille kidnapped?

26, 1993: Reveille VI was kidnapped from her handler’s family home in Dallas. She was four months old. Both Reveille V and VI were staying with Mascot Corporal John Lively’s family’s home in Dallas ahead of the New Year’s Day Cotton Bowl game against Notre Dame.

Over in College Station at Texas A&M University, deceased Reveilles (the mascot dog) are buried in graves, with a scoreboard view, near Kyle Field. “Reveille: First Lady of Texas A&M,” a book by Rusty Burson, documents how stadium renovations over the years obscured the view at times.
