Is Driza-Bone made in Australia?
All of our traditional oilskin products have been made in Australia for our 120 year history and we will continue to make these garments in Australia. Some of our Desert Wax and Dry Wax jackets and vests are also made in local Australian factories.

Driza-Bone, with a history stretching back to 1898, has been through a rollercoaster ride in the past three decades and in 2017 was merged with rural clothing company RB Sellars, founded by businessman Richard Sellars-Jones, with the broader group now generating about half of its total sales online.
How do you rejuvenate Driza-Bone?
Sponge diluted vinegar onto the affected areas. Hand wash in luke warm water using our Oilskin/Wool Detergent or a pure soap. Do not soak your coat. Rinse off as much of the soap as you can and hang it out to dry using a strong coat hanger.
How do you remove mould from Driza-Bone?
Brush it down and apply Shannon’s special oil of cloves mixture – ¼ teaspoon oil of cloves in a 250 ml bottle baby oil. Put a couple of drops on a cloth to wipe over the jacket in parallel stripes. It will kill the mould from re-growing and keeps the drizabone water proof.

Oilskin was traditionally for sailors and fishermen. New Zealander sailor Edward Le Roy developed the garment in 1898 by painting fabric with linseed oil and wax. Wet weather clothing was a necessity for their line of work because sailors and fishermen often faced extreme weather conditions.

Can dubbin be used on oilskin?
Oiled cotton isn’t really waterproof. Leaks start at the seams and the material itself isn’t especially waterproof, certainly not to Himalayan rainstorms on a motorbike. Dubbin will not make it any worse, the traditional material was whale oil so beeswax-veg oil might work.

How do you get the musty smell out of an oilskin?
If the garment is completely covered in mould, you can wash the whole coat in diluted vinegar and water. This will get the vinegar right through the whole coat to help kill off the mould. Please note, always store your oilskin garment in a dry well ventilated area.
