Is Jameson Caskmates a good whiskey?
Well-trod quibble aside, this is indeed a good whiskey. It’s fun to drink and carries a compliment of unique and interesting flavors layered on top of the typical Jameson fare. It’s a dark breath of fresh air in a category that’s seen relatively little innovation and I can’t wait for the next release in this series!
How do you drink Jameson Caskmates?
- Fill a high ball glass with ice cubes.
- Pour in a shot of Caskmates Stout.
- Top up the glass with a good quality soda water.
- Stir briefly to mix.
- Take a large wedge of orange, give it a squeeze and drop it into the glass.
- Roughly 1-part Jameson to 3-parts Soda water, all parts refreshing.

Jameson Caskmates Stout Edition is smooth (even smoother than Jameson Original), and picks up some richer flavors from its beer barrel aging. Those richer, deeper flavors work remarkably well with its still-light mouthfeel. Enjoyable neat, its accrued flavors of would nicely lend it to an Irish coffee or an emerald.
What’s the difference between Jameson and Jameson Caskmates?
Caskmates, despite being the same whiskey found in the original Jameson, has a thicker mouthfeel, with more chocolate, vanilla and coffee notes than traditional Jameson. The newest Jameson whiskeys aren’t likely to make you dramatically rethink what Jameson is. But that’s OK. They’re well worth a taste.
