Is the USSR anthem and Russian anthem the same?

The “State Anthem of the Russian Federation” is the national anthem of Russia. It uses the same melody as the “State Anthem of the Soviet Union”, composed by Alexander Alexandrov, and new lyrics by Sergey Mikhalkov, who had collaborated with Gabriel El-Registan on the original anthem.

The Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic was the last republic to adopt a regional anthem, doing so in 1990. It had had none before this date, and used in its place the Soviet national anthem, which was “The Internationale” from 1917 to 1944 and the “National Anthem of the Soviet Union” from 1944 to 1990.

Why was the USSR red?

The colour red honours the red flag of the Paris Commune of 1871 and the red star and hammer and sickle are symbols of communism and socialism. The hammer symbolises urban industrial workers while the sickle symbolises agricultural workers (peasants)—who together, as the Proletarian class, form the state.
