What are the different types of antenna mount?
Common types include mag mounts, ball mounts, bed mounts, clamps, clip and lip mounts, glass mounts, brackets, quick disconnects, pocket mounts, post mounts, springs and guys, trailer hitch mounts, whips and mast mounts, and other unlisted mounts that may vary by manufacturer.
Do glass mount CB antennas work?
Also, glass is a good insulator and reduces the incoming and outgoing signal strength. We do have some customers contact us with concerns regarding high SWR readings and poor performance when using these mounts. For these reasons, we will generally recommend other mounting options over this one.
Where is the best place to put a CB antenna on a pickup truck?
Center of the Roof – The Ideal Location In terms of performance, it’s hard to beat mounting an antenna in the middle of your pickup’s roof. Why? This ensures it will be located at the highest point on your vehicle, which will maximize performance. It will also be installed in the middle of the truck’s chassis.
Does CB coax length matter?
We recommend 18 feet of coax even if you don’t need that much. If you use a length that is shorter or longer, you might risk having trouble achieving good SWR readings. Properly store any excess coax in a figure 8, about one foot in length, and bound in the middle- it should look like a long, skinny 8.
Are all CB antennas the same?
All stock CB radios are limited by FCC regulations to 4 watts of transmission power. Accordingly, all radios will have the same output power regardless of their price. As all radios are limited by this bottleneck, the largest determinant of performance is antenna quality and installation.
Will any CB antenna work with any CB radio?
If you are using a CB radio in your home, you will need a base-station antenna mounted on your roof. You do NOT want to use a mobile antenna. Mobile antennas are designed strictly for vehicles and will not work properly for base-station use. And any kind of indoor antenna will get truly lousy range.
How long should my CB antenna be?
102 inches
Choosing the Optimal CB Antenna Length Yes, taller/longer is better for range of distance when it comes to an antenna and the optimal antenna length is 1/4 wavelength. That translates to 102 inches (8.5 feet), too tall to be practical for most mobile applications.
