Unlike a hotline for those in immediate crisis, warmlines provide early intervention with emotional support that can prevent a crisis – and a more costly 911 call or ER visit.
What is CalHOPE?
CalHOPE delivers crisis support for communities impacted by a national disaster. This is a Crisis Counseling Assistance and Training Program funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and run by the California Department of Health Care Services.
Can I text a warmline?
They’re accessible by phone, text, chat All you have to do is dial a phone number and you’ll get connected with someone and start receiving support. Some warmlines even have texting options or live chats, if you’re feeling hesitant about calling in.

Is it possible to text 911?
A text or data plan is required to use Text-to-911. Texts to 911 will get a bounce back message if you are roaming. Texts to 911 have a 160 character limit, can get out of order, or may not be received. There is no language translation service for texts to 911.
What is CalHOPE warm line?
The CalHOPE Warm Line connects callers to peer counselors who listen with compassion, provide non-judgmental support and refer people to additional resources that can give hope and help them cope.
How is CalHOPE funded?
CalHOPE is funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and run by the California Department of Health Care Services (CHCS). The program provides warmlines and more support for all Californians who may need help related to COVID-19.
