What is Bravelle used for?
This medication is used to treat certain fertility problems in women. It provides the hormone (FSH) that helps cause the ovaries to produce eggs. This medication is usually used in combination with another hormone (hCG) for the growth and release of a mature egg (ovulation).
How long does FSH injections take to work?
You will need to begin your FSH injections within 3-5 days following your menstrual period; therefore, call the day of your menstrual period to notify our office that you are ready to start FSH. If your menstrual period starts on Saturday or Sunday, call first thing Monday morning after 8:30.
What happens after taking FSH injection?
Headache, nausea, vomiting, mild stomach/abdominal pain, bloating, redness/pain at the injection site, or breast tenderness/pain may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
What kind of drug is Bravelle?
Bravelle (urofollitropin) is a synthetic (man-made) form of the natural hormone called gonadotropin. This medication helps the eggs in your ovaries grow and develop. Your ovaries can then produce more eggs and prepare for ovulation (the release of an egg from your ovaries).

Fertility drugs include:
- Clomiphene citrate. Taken by mouth, this drug stimulates ovulation by causing the pituitary gland to release more FSH and LH , which stimulate the growth of an ovarian follicle containing an egg.
- Gonadotropins.

- Bromocriptine.
Does FSH improve egg quality?
FSH supports ovulation and helps the ovaries mature eggs for each cycle. A woman’s FSH levels fluctuate daily throughout her monthly menstrual cycle, spiking immediately before ovulation.

Ovulation (follicle rupture) usually occurs about 40-46 hours after the hCG is given. hCG is self-administered as an injection.
