What is Micro DIMM?

Therefore notebook designers are looking for DIMMs with smaller form factors but the same densities as SO-DIMMs, which are predominantly used in notebooks. The solution is called Micro-DIMM, a memory module with ~50 % higher bit density which requires ~35 % less board-space than the SO-DIMM at the same memory density.

How do I know if my RAM is Sodimm or DIMM?

To check whether the modules are DIMM or SODIMM, use these steps:

  1. Open Start.
  2. Type Command Prompt, right-click the top result, and select the Run as administrator option.
  3. Type the following command to check the memory form factor and press Enter: wmic memorychip get devicelocator, formfactor.

Do laptops use Sodimm and MicroDIMM?

A Micro Dual Inline Memory Module (MicroDIMM) is another memory module that is used in laptop computers. The MicroDIMM is smaller than the SODIMM and comes in a 144-pin module for SDRAM and a 172-pin module for DDR memory.

Is all laptop RAM SODIMM?

Yes. Laptops use SO-DIMM memory. And… if you were to go by the pictures provided for both listings, then BOTH of the items are SO-DIMM, as they are both the same size (physically), have the notch in the same place, both made for laptops, etc. If it’s made for a laptop, it’s SO-DIMM.

Can you use SODIMM in a desktop?

Typically the answer is no, however there are some “desktop” models that use SODIMMS. Typically these desktops are small form factor and use laptop SODIMMS to save space.

What is the difference between SODIMM and Unidimm?

What is the difference between SODIMM and UNI DIMM? SODIMM’s are used in laptops to manage memory and support SDRAM, DDR, DDR2, whereas UNI DIMM cannot manage memory and supports DDR3 and DDR4.

Can you use SO-DIMM in a desktop?

Is my laptop DIMM or SODIMM?

Can I use SODIMM and DIMM together?

Short answer: No. Long answer: Remember that DIMM and SODIMM slots are not the same. DIMM slots are RAM slots that are typically found on desktops, and SODIMMs are found on laptops.

Can I use DIMM instead of Sodimm?

Why do laptops use Sodimm?

Laptop RAM (SO-DIMM) Almost all modern laptops house SODIMMs as their primary memory modules. They’re quite small in size, and hence ideal for mobile versions of a computer – laptops. SODIMMs are roughly half the size of regular DIMMs in computers.

Can I use SODIMM instead of DIMM?

And NO, SODIMM and standard 288 pin DIMMs are not interchangeable.

Is SODIMM same as DDR4?

Newer DDR2, DDR3 and DDR4 standards have steadily increased RAM performance and lowered power consumption for both standard DIMMs and SODIMMs, but they’re not interchangeable.

Can I put DIMM in SO-DIMM?

What is a DIMM memory module?

A DIMM or dual in-line memory module, commonly called a RAM stick, comprises a series of dynamic random-access memory integrated circuits. These modules are mounted on a printed circuit board and designed for use in personal computers, workstations and servers.

What is the difference between DDR2 DIMM SODIMM and microdimm memory modules?

What is the difference between DDR, DDR2, DIMM, SODIMM, and MicroDIMM memory modules? Memory Type DDR2 DDR Unbuffered DIMM 240pin 1.8V 184pin 2.5V Registered DIMM 240pin 1.8V 184pin 2.5V SODIMM 200pin 1.8V 200pin 2.5V Mini Registered DIMM 244pin 1.8V N/A

What is a DIMM used for?

These modules are mounted on a printed circuit board and designed for use in personal computers, workstations and servers. DIMMs began to replace SIMMs (single in-line memory modules) as the predominant type of memory module as Intel P5 -based Pentium processors began to gain market share.

What is a microdimm?

A MicroDIMM is a memory module with a smaller outline and thickness than standard SODIMM modules and are designed for mobile type, slim type, and super lightweight notebook computers. Get Support Content on the Go!
