What is the drug Neupogen used for?

Neupogen® (filgrastim) is a drug that has been used successfully for cancer patients to stimulate the growth of the white blood cells, making patients less vulnerable to infections, it is expected to help patients who have bone marrow damage from very high doses of radiation in much the same way.

When should Neupogen be given?

Administer NEUPOGEN at least 24 hours after cytotoxic chemotherapy. Do not administer NEUPOGEN within the 24-hour period prior to chemotherapy [see Warnings and Precautions (5.11)]. A transient increase in neutrophil count is typically seen 1 to 2 days after initiation of NEUPOGEN therapy.

Is Neupogen a chemotherapy drug?

Patients with Cancer Receiving Strong Chemotherapy NEUPOGEN ® is a prescription medicine used to help the chance of infection due to a low white blood cell count, in people with certain types of cancer (non-myeloid) who receive anti-cancer medicines (chemotherapy) that can cause fever and a low blood cell count.
