Are thermostatic valves universal?
However this in not the case now and most, if not all, TRVs are universal, meaning that the flow can be either way through them without making and alterations to them. This means that there is no restriction to which side of the radiator they can go.
Can a thermostatic valve be repaired?
You can fix it by unscrewing the head of the TRV and taking a look at the pin – is it sticking up out of the body of the valve? If it’s stuck inside the valve or stiff, a spray of WD40 will probably fix it. You can also try using a pair of long-nosed pliers to pull it out further.
Are Honeywell TRV heads interchangeable?
This head will fit either. Yes you can. If you could please email a photo of your existing TRV heads to [email protected] we will be able to help you with a replacement.
How long should a TRV last?
Ordinary sensor TRVs with wax or oil filled sensor tend to last 10 to 15 years if you are lucky. If you get 20 years you are doing well. Some of the better quality brands did last beyond that, like Danfoss, which was also repairable. The glands leak in the body and seize.
Can you just change the TRV head?
If you are swapping an old thermostatic valve for a new TRV, take the thermostatic head off both valves. You should be able to turn this to remove it by hand.
Do TRV heads fail?
The thermostatic action of TRVs can also fail, so they don’t close down the flow through the radiator when the room gets too warm. If the temperature calibration has slipped out of range, or the thermostatic action has failed completely, the valve will need to be changed.
Are all thermostatic radiator valves the same?
Most people don’t know that they can get different sizes of radiator valves.
Do TRV wear out?
How often should TRV be replaced?
You should replace your thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs), or at least upgrade the TRV heads, if they are 10 or more years old. TRVs can decline in terms of performance and accuracy over time.
