The construction of the ironing board pad also allows steam to pass through when a steam iron is being used on a garment. The early ironing boards were often made of wood.

  5. Muslin or other cotton fabric to cover the top (I used 1-3/4 yd muslin)
  6. Staple gun & staples (I used 1/4″)
