Why was the geography bee discontinued?
In 2020, recognizing the difficult circumstances school communities found themselves in to safely educate students during the COVID-19 pandemic, we made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020-2021 GeoBee and instead focus on reimagining what a global geography experience for young people could look like entirely.
Will There Be a Geo Bee 2021?
The US Academic Bee and Bowl is pleased to announce that in the 2021-2022 academic year it will once again be hosting the National Qualifying Exam sites for the Middle School and Elementary School Divisions of the International Geography Bee.
Will There Be a Geo Bee 2022?
Regional Finals – The 2022 International Geography Bee Regional Finals will take place in person between January and May and will cost $45 per student. Their exact dates will be posted here as soon as they are finalized.

For Middle/Elementary students, they must first take the Online Qualifying Exam (which is free at these levels). Students who pass that level then must compete in the Regional Finals. Students who finish in the top 50% at the Middle and Elementary School Regional Finals qualify for the IGB US National Championships.
