Are old Cricut cartridges compatible with all machines?
The cartridges don’t work the same for every Cricut machine. The Expressions can use cartridges without the internet. For the Cricut Explore Air 2, you have to link the cartridge to your account. And the Cricut Maker doesn’t even have a cartridge slot!
Can you use a linked Cricut cartridges on an expression?
If you are not using any Cricut Software or the Gypsy, then linked cartridges can still be used in any legacy machine (Personal, Create, Expression, Expression 2, Cake, etc). The linking is to an account, not to your actual machine.
Is the Cricut Expression obsolete?
Being an older model, the Expression has been discontinued from the official Cricut store and there are only limited stocks available on Amazon. From our experience, the best place to pick up the machine in 2021 is on eBay where it can be snapped up for under $100.

Select your device from the drop-down menu. Cartridge adapters will show up in the list as Adapter. When instructed, insert the cartridge into the cartridge port on the left side of the machine above the Open button, or plug your cartridge into the adapter. After a few moments, Design Space will detect the cartridge.
