Can Java map have multiple keys?

We can also use Apache Commons Collection, which provides an efficient map implementation MultiKeyMap that maps multiple keys to a value. MultiKeyMap provides get, containsKey, put, and remove for individual keys.

Can we have multiple keys in map?

I used such implementation for multiple key objects. It allows me to use innumerable number of keys for map. It’s scaleable and quite simple. But it has limitations: keys are ordered according to order of arguments in constructor and it would not work with 2D arrays, because of using Arrays.

Can a HashMap have two keys?

You can’t have an hash map with multiple keys, but you can have an object that takes multiple parameters as the key.

Can HashMap keys have multiple values?

HashMap can be used to store key-value pairs. But sometimes you may want to store multiple values for the same key. For example: For Key A, you want to store – Apple, Aeroplane.

What happens if 2 keys are same in HashMap?

If two keys are the same ( equals() returns true when you compare them), their hashCode() method must return the same number. If keys violate this, then keys that are equal might be stored in different buckets, and the hashmap would not be able to find key-value pairs (because it’s going to look in the same bucket).

How do I put multiple values on a map?

How to add multiple values per key to a Java HashMap

  1. Stick with the standard APIs and add a collection class like a ‘Vector’ or ‘ArrayList’ to your map or set.
  2. Use the MultiMap and MultiValueMap classes from the Apache Commons library.

Which map implementation allows duplicate keys in Java?

You can use a TreeMap with a custom Comparator in order to treat each key as unequal to the others. It would also preserve the insertion order in your map, just like a LinkedHashMap. So, the net result would be like a LinkedHashMap which allows duplicate keys!

What happens if we put duplicate key in HashMap?

If you try to insert the duplicate key, it will replace the element of the corresponding key. HashMap is similar to HashTable, but it is unsynchronized. It allows to store the null keys as well, but there should be only one null key object and there can be any number of null values.

How do I put multiple values on a Map?

Can one key have multiple values?

In python, if we want a dictionary in which one key has multiple values, then we need to associate an object with each key as value. This value object should be capable of having various values inside it. We can either use a tuple or a list as a value in the dictionary to associate multiple values with a key.

Why HashMap is faster than hash table?

HashMap is faster than Hashtable due to the fact that Hashtable implicitly checks for synchronization on each method call even in a single thread environment. HashMap allows storing null values, while Hashtable doesn’t. HashMap can be iterated by an Iterator which is considered as fail-fast .

How do you input multiple values in Java?

MultipleStringInputExample1.java

  1. import java.util.Scanner;
  2. public class MultipleStringInputExample1.
  3. {
  4. public static void main(String[] args)
  5. {
  6. Scanner sc = new Scanner(System.in);
  7. System.out.print(“Please enter the number of strings you want to enter: “);
  8. //takes an integer input.

Which one is better HashMap or HashTable?

Hashmap vs Hashtable It is thread-safe and can be shared with many threads. HashMap allows one null key and multiple null values whereas Hashtable doesn’t allow any null key or value. HashMap is generally preferred over HashTable if thread synchronization is not needed.

Which is better ArrayList or HashMap?

ArrayList stores the elements only as values and maintains internally the indexing for every element. While HashMap stores elements with key and value pairs that means two objects. So HashMap takes more memory comparatively.

Should I use HashMap or Hashtable Java?

When to use HashMap and Hashtable? HashMap should be preferred over Hashtable for the non-threaded applications. In simple words , use HashMap in unsynchronized or single threaded applications . We should avoid using Hashtable, as the class is now obsolete in latest Jdk 1.8 .

How to sort map values by key in Java?

Sort Map by Key using Stream APIs. In java 8, Map.Entry class has static method comparingByKey() to help you in sorting by keys. This method returns a Comparator that compares Map.Entry in natural order on key. Alternatively, you can pass a custom Comparator to use in sorting. This can be used to sort the map in reverse order. In ascending order

How to make a map in Java?

A map of error codes and their descriptions.

  • A map of zip codes and cities.
  • A map of managers and employees. Each manager (key) is associated with a list of employees (value) he manages.
  • A map of classes and students. Each class (key) is associated with a list of students (value).
  • How to use sets as keys in Java maps?

    Map.keySet() method returns a Set of keys contained in the map. Use this if you want to obtain the keys only. Use this if you want to obtain the keys only. Set < Integer > keys = map . keySet (); for ( Integer k : keys ) { System . out . println ( “key: ” + k ); }

    How to import map in Java?

    Installation. When the src=”” attribute is used,the resulting HTTP response must have the MIME type application/importmap+json.

  • Dynamic import map example. The above rules mean that you can dynamically generate import maps,as long as you do so before performing any imports.
  • Scope.
  • Interaction with speculative parsing/fetching.
