Do airport X-rays see you naked?
That’s why a recently developed full-body scanner is going back to the drawing board, the LA Times reports. What can TSA see on X-ray?
The first are full-body scanners known as millimetre wave scanners and create a moving image like what we are used to seeing in movies. Backscatter X-rays are designed to show hidden objects beneath clothing or luggage. They can detect both metallic and non-metallic objects, ranging from guns to foods and plastics.
Can TSA scanners see pads?
To my surprise I found reports of women getting extra security screening because their panty liners, pads, tampons or menstrual cups were detected by the full body scanner.
Do airport X-rays see through clothes?
Airport scanners, including backscatter and millimeter-wave scanners, can both see through clothes. Backscatter scanners use low energy x-rays that reflect the x-rays back to the machine, while millimeter wave scanners use low-energy non-ionizing radiofrequency waves to see through clothes.

What you wear down there can show up on the scanner. Using period products such as tampons and period panties while traveling may be unavoidable, but be sure not to shove excess toilet paper or tissues in your pants or pockets.
Can TSA see your tampon?
The good news is that the airport scanners which passengers walk through as they go through airport security are unable to see inside the body, so airport scanners are unable to see tampons.
What do you do if you have metal in your body at airport security?
Inform the TSA officer that you have an artificial knee, hip, other metal implant or a pacemaker, defibrillator or other internal medical device. You should not be screened by a walk-through metal detector if you have an internal medical device such as a pacemaker. Consult with your physician prior to flying.
Do airport scanners detect metal implants?
Airport metal detectors are sensitive to metals, including orthopedic metal implants inside your body. The most commonly implanted orthopedic materials include stainless steel, cobalt chrome, and titanium.
