Does remploy exist?

All of our programmes continue to operate. In line with government guidance in England, Scotland and Wales we have reopened a number of our branches and offices for face-to-face delivery. All of our reopened sites are fully COVID safety compliant and have been inspected by health and safety professionals.

Why was Remploy shut down?

Closure of Remploy’s remaining three furniture factories in Blackburn, Sheffield and Neath, south Wales, will draw a line under an issue that has riven the disability movement and caused huge difficulties for successive governments.

When did Remploy close?

The company focused on providing employment services to support those with disabilities or health conditions seeking mainstream employment, and supporting employers to recruit more disabled employees. The last Remploy Factory was closed on 31 October 2013.

The last Remploy factories close on Thursday, ending 67 years of state-run sheltered factory employment for disabled people in the UK. For some, it represents a long overdue progression from paternalist attitudes towards disability and work; for others, an unforgivable betrayal.

What qualifications do you need to be a career advisor?

You can take either a postgraduate diploma or masters degree in career guidance. These courses lead to the Qualification in Career Development (QCD). Many people apply to do this course after working in teaching, youth and community work or social services. These courses take 1 year full-time or 2 years part-time.

What is Remploy called now?

In March 2015, it was confirmed that Remploy would become owned by US service provider Maximus (70%) and an employee trust (30%). The transfer of ownership was completed on 7 April 2015.
