What does network genie do?
Netgear’s Genie app can be installed on a PC or Mac desktop, as well as on Android and iOS devices. The purpose of Genie is to make managing and configuring Netgear devices easier than by the conventional method—opening a browser to the IP address of the device and using the Web-based GUI.
How do I stop my NETGEAR Genie from starting up?
Re: Stop Genie from running Try right clicking on the Genie icon in the tray and see if there is any option to stop it from loading automatically. If there is no option and you are running Windows 8 or 10, then open the Task Manager and click on the Startup tab. If you see anything related to Genie, disable it.
Can I disable NETGEAR Genie?

By default, every time NETGEAR Genie Ver. 2.4. 48 starts, it creates a new version of the Genie Media Server on every other networked computer. Addional instances of Media Servers are started every time the Genie Application is restarted, unless the Media Services are stopped in Genie’s My Media setting.

Why won’t my Netgear Genie connect?
Perform a network power cycle by rebooting your main router and extender. Reconnect to the default WiFi network of your NETGEAR extender. Open the web browser and re-run the NETGEAR extender setup wizard. If the issue persists, reset the extender back to the default factory settings.
